From graceful exits and innovative ceramics to messy breakups and quirky furniture for your phone, find out what’s keeping high and low culture on its toes.
✨Read to the end to listen to a raunchy song banned in the 1940s.
Misty Copeland’s Final Bow
Misty Copeland, the prima ballerina who broke barriers, is hanging up her pointe shoes. She took her final bow with the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) during the company’s fall gala at Lincoln Center in Manhattan. Oprah Winfrey and Debbie Allen sang her praises on stage prior to her performance of Swan Lake.
As the first African-American principal dancer at ABT, Copeland inspired a generation of young ballet dancers who could see themselves reflected in her. Though Copeland could have crumbled under the pressure, she always remained classy, using her position as a beacon of hope for anyone who is underrepresented.
Copeland might be leaving the stage, but her legacy will live on in the principal dancers of color who walk through the door she broke open. In her new role on ABT’s Board of Trustees, she’ll surely use her experience to help widen the scope of talent in the ballet world.
Love is Blind’s Happily Never After
Season 9 of Love is Blind is the first one with ZERO marriages at the end. While some may argue it’s a bust, I have to completely disagree. In all honesty, I couldn’t get through Season 8. I started and never finished it. Season 9, though? It was actually interesting and I’m glad no one got married.
Every season, it seems like most couples should not be tying the knot… or even dating… ANYONE. The series is filled with people that need to work on themselves. This season, most of the couples called things off before hitting that wedding aisle. Two couples did walk down the aisle, and said, “I don’t,” but that seems like the right amount of weddings to have to sit through. The wedding episodes are usually the most boring, so I personally appreciate the foresight of the couples to call it quits before dragging it all out for us viewers.
The reunion will be available to stream on Netflix this Wednesday @ 9pm ET / 6pm PT. The streamer released a sneak peek of what to expect, and I’m seated. A few immediate reactions: Huh, so Kacie showed up to the reunion? Wonder how that’ll go… WHAT is Kalybriah pulling out of her chest?? And WHAT is Sparkle Megan’s surprise???
👮♂️ Suspects have been arrested in the Louvre jewelry heist that occurred last week, but the real question is…where are the jewels? According to French law, the suspects can remain in custody 96 hours prior to being charged, so stay tuned to see what comes next.
👩🎨 In another bit of thievery, German authorities have just broken up a major art forgery ring (led by a 77-year-old man!) that was hawking fake art by Picasso, Frida Kahlo, Rembrandt, and more for millions.
📱 Trying to curb your phone addiction and can’t stop? One organization came up with a clever way to put an end to screen time — make a six-pound steel case. At least this way, if you insist on using it, your arms will also get a workout.
🤠 We’ve just been introduced to the work of Shae Bishop and are blown away. His meticulously crafted, ceramic-covered take on Western wear is nothing short of incredible.
🕳️ Japan is known for its artistic manhole covers, and now you can have one! The Aichi Prefecture is offloading some of its vintage models and placing them up for auction. With prices starting at $20, anyone can have a bit of Japan in their home.
💡 Oversized animals working to support power lines? It sounds convoluted, but that’s the idea circulating in Austria. Whether they become real or remain renderings, they certainly offer a clever way to brighten up the landscape.
🖼️ Art Basel just finished up in Paris, and, as usual, there was plenty to see on the streets of Paris, including a set of major installations in Miu Miu’s open-air exhibition space.
Six years ago, Rachel Accurso was a stay-at-home mom with a baby on her hip and an iPhone camera, posting singsong videos to YouTube to help her son through a speech delay. Now, Ms. Rachel is a household name. She’s not just a streamer, she’s a cultural flashpoint—and a Glamour

🤖 While some are embracing our future robot overlords, filmmaker Guillermo del Toro told NPR “I’d rather die” than use generative AI in his films. He’s says, “AI, particularly generative AI — I am not interested, nor will I ever be interested. I’m 61, and I hope to be able to remain uninterested in using it at all until I croak.”
🥸 There’s an “art teacher” named Matt Taylor that’s gone viral on TikTok. Why? Well… he’s clearly Kevin James pretending to be a 4th grade art teacher for some reason. That reason is not blatantly clear just yet, but we’re guessing it’s an elaborate marketing ploy for an upcoming movie. According to his IMDb, he has a movie called Solo Mio coming up, in which he plays a character named… Matt.
🛏️ You can now go to bed and put your phone in its own bed, thanks to IKEA. Officially known as The Phone Sleep Collection, this quirky tiny bed is an adorable way to sleep peacefully…knowing your phone is also resting comfortably. (No, this is not an April Fool’s joke in October or an SNL parody. This is for real!)

📽️ Another anime won the box office this past weekend. Chainsaw Man took the top spot its opening weekend, beating out horror film Black Phone 2, the Colleen Hoover adaptation Regretting You, and the new Bruce Springsteen biopic. It was just last month that Demon Slayer Infinity Castle won the weekend box office and broke the record for the biggest U.S. opening for an anime.
